New Kweyol Dictionary Launches Tomorrow |
A NEW Kwéyòl Dictionary will be launched tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. at the Folk Research Centre. This launching is one of the activities organized to celebrate Creole Heritage Month. The new dictionary of St. Lucia’s Creole language is published by the Ministry of Education and the Summer Institute of Linguistics International. This latest addition to St. Lucia’s national literature was preceded in 1992 by St. Lucia’s first Kwèyòl dictionary, Dictionary of St. Lucian Creole, written by Jones E. Mondesir. Another publication, Tèstèman Nef-la, a translation of the New Testament, appeared in 1999. It was published by the Bible Society of the Eastern Caribbean. The leader of the editorial team that produced the New Testament was Dr. David Frank, who is the Principal editor of the new dictionary. At tomorrow’s launching, some of the speakers on the programme will include Msgr. Dr. Patrick A.B. Anthony, Dr. David Frank, editor of the Dictionary and Dr. Didacus Jules, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education. Members of the public are being invited to attend. The dictionary will be on sale at a very affordable price. |
